Album Review #2 Robert Palmer - Pride (1983)

Friday, October 20, 2006

**
Okay! With so many albums to go through I guess I’m going to find some that I just can’t figure out. Some I can understand, because it may be from a genre I'm not used to. But ROBERT PALMER!!! I’ve liked Palmer’s work, and I loved how he took advantage of MTV to create his later image, but this album makes no sense. He’s trying for something, perhaps an art rock(??) ala early Roxy Music, but nothing seems to work. Only until the middle of the second side, with a remake of Kool & The Gang’s “You Can Have It (Take My Heart)” does something sounds reasonable, along with “What You Waiting For”, but then the finale “The Silver Gun” slides right back down again to finally bring this album to an unsatisfying conclusion.
Recommended Album Pick up (for the cover, makes a great poster, or if you buy four milk crates worth of albums and it's in that collection!).
